Does it unlock iPhones for unapproved SIM cards? This is a necessary for first-generation iPhone users who don't use their iPhone on an Apple-authorized contract. Many applications unlock the iPhone for 3rd party applications, but this has little value -- the phone is quite usable and popular applications can be installed on locked iPhones via the iTunes App store.
However with a locked base-band and a non-authorized SIM card, iPhones are quite useless. As far as I know PwnageTool.app is the only one that unlocks iPhones for use with non-authorized SIM cards.
I have a 16gb 2g iPhone, and it has been working well using a vodfone SIM.
However I had a hard drive crash and had to restore my iMac, which meant all the settings were lost, and inadvertantly when I installed itunes again it upgraded the itunes and the iPhone software to 2.1, and it stopped working.
I have used QuickPWN and upgraded, the iphone is functional in terms of the wifi is working, Cydia is installed. The iphone is now using software version 2.1, but my iphone no longer has any cellphone capability.
I'd love for people to do it themselves and encourage anyone thinking about contacting me to have a go first. Follow links on the write-up of my iPhone upgrade and have some patience!
