Comments on "Mac Favicon Deprecated -- And RELEASED!"

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up. I found this through google anyway, but pretty useful for you to post some deprecation info.

Thank you!

Ah, thanks for this comment. Smart Bookmarks Bar is what I was looking for. Sorry Bevan, this is far too complicated for the task at hand :/

Exactly what i needed

Thanks for sharing this its exactly what i was looking for!

I've finally been able to

I've finally been able to create a userstyle on userstyles.org to facilitate the instalation of this. Please see the instructions at the begining of this post.

I too am mourning the loss....

I too am a writer not a programmer ("I'm a doctor, Jim, not a....") and overwhelmed by the process you describe, though you do so clearly; and you are busy and unpaid and we understand; just registering my sorrow. :o(

Great

Exactly what I was looking for - thanks for the tip from the opposite side of the world.

glad i'm not the only one.

glad i'm not the only one. i'm on a mbp and stylish makes ff3 run so slow that it's completely unusable

Smart Bookmarks Bar

This firefox addon does exactly what I want: adds favicons to the bookmark bar and hides the page titles. Works on FF3 on Mac and on Linux and requires no manual userChrome modifications.

I understand this is more

I understand this is more difficult than installing a theme, but I'm not paid for working on this, so can't afford to put much time into it. The sacrifice of implementing these themes in this way has made it possible for them to available at all for FF3.

Sorry I can't help you any more. I'm sure if you spend 10 minutes going through the above insructions carefully you'll be able to figure it out. If anything remains unclear, please let me know and I will provide more detail.

Somebody mentioned this in a

Somebody mentioned this in a review there today, and he replied with a fix for OSX to make the tabs show. Check it out here http://www.mediafire.com/?drzegrxyjzg
I tested it with this Stylish theme, and it works great. It's not integrated into the general "Add to Firefox" release yet, but will be in the next time. Read his reply, it's pretty helpful.

I hate spammers, and this feels kindof spammy of me. My feelings won't be hurt if you erase this comment.

Any suggestions for us mere mortal users?

I enabled the favicons for Firefox2, and it was much easier than this. I'm a journalist, not a programmer. Where does this code go? And why with all the fancy upgrades to FF3, does it still not freakin' display favicons automatically? I love FF, *and* my macbook, but this is frustrating. No easier way, eh?

I've got to get back to my magazine article. Ciao.

It breaks the tabs for me.

You could try "favicon picker

You could try "favicon picker 3" It works with firefox3

I'll give it another try..

Maybe it's me. I'm on FF 3.0 on OS-X 10.5.3. I've just reinstalled Stylish 0.5.7 and have your code as the only style.

I'll give it a few days on the reinstall and see how it goes.

I'm surprised about the

I'm surprised about the issues with Stylish. I haven't experienced those issues with FF3 on Mac OS X.

Are you on Windows/Linux/Mac? Have you upgraded to Firefox 3? Try removing all Stylish plugins except the Mac Favicon one/s.

Bring back the themes - please

Maybe it's just me, or my combination of plugins, but I find Stylish a terrible resource hog. Firefox often ends up pegging my CPU when Stylish is enabled.

The themes worked great, with no resource overhead. Obviously I understand the development overhead for you is much greater - so I understand if it's not an option.

Those are amazing photos on

Those are amazing photos on your website. Are any doctored? The colors and contrast seem to be tweaked.
